چکیده

We introduce a new methodology for designing block ciphers with provable security against differential and linear cryptanalysis. It is based on three new principles: change of the location of round functions, round functions with recursive structure, and substitution boxes of different sizes. The first realizes parallel computation of the round functions without losing provable security, and the second reduces the size of substitution boxes; moreover, the last is expected to make algebraic attacks difficult. This structure gives us a simple and effective method for designing secure and fast block ciphers in hardware as well as in software implementation. Block encryption algorithm MISTY was designed on the basis of this methodology. key words: block ciphers, differential cryptanalysis, linear cryptanalysis, provable security

A new method for accelerating impossible differential cryptanalysis and its application on LBlock

Impossible differential cryptanalysis, the extension of differential cryptanalysis, is one of the most efficient attacks against block ciphers. This cryptanalysis method has been applied to most of the block ciphers and has shown significant results. Using structures, key schedule considerations, early abort, and pre-computation are some common methods to reduce complexities of this attack. In ...

Toward Provable Security Against Differential and Linear Cryptanalysis for Camellia and Related Ciphers

We present a new algorithm that evaluates provable security against differential and linear cryptanalysis for Feistel ciphers with invertible substitution-diffusion (SD)-based round functions. This algorithm computes an upper bound on the maximum expected differential or linear probability (MEDP or MELP) based on the number of rounds. We then apply our algorithm to Camellia (minus FL/FL). Previ...

Practical and Provable Security against Differential and Linear Cryptanalysis for Substitution - Permutation Networks

We examine the diffusion layers of some block ciphers referred to as substitution-permutation networks. We investigate the practical and provable security of these diffusion layers against differential and linear cryptanalysis. First, in terms of practical security, we show that the minimum number of differentially active S-boxes and that of linearly active S-boxes are generally not identical a...

Impossible Differential Cryptanalysis of Reduced-Round Midori64 Block Cipher (Extended Version)

Impossible differential attack is a well-known mean to examine robustness of block ciphers. Using impossible differ- ential cryptanalysis, we analyze security of a family of lightweight block ciphers, named Midori, that are designed considering low energy consumption. Midori state size can be either 64 bits for Midori64 or 128 bits for Midori128; however, both vers...
